Employment status: Full-Time – Salaried (exempt)

Compensation: $52,000 – $55,000 (depending on experience)

Supervisor: Director of Development

Schedule: 8:30 am – 5:30 pm (occasional early/late hours and weekends are required)

Summary of Position

The SHM Development Associate works as a key position of the development team to administrate, plan, organize, manage, and measure all development functions, including special events, grant writing, communications, donor relations, team collaboration and other functions as assigned by the Development Director. This role includes supporting the Director of Development and staff as needed.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Assist the Director and staff with all development functions including planning, setting strategies, creating budgets, and creating and executing campaigns, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter campaigns.
  • Assist the Director of Development with calendar, meeting agendas, note taking, task execution, etc.
  • Assist the Director with administrative needs for all other campaigns, including capital campaigns.
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage development special events, including dinners, and small group events.
  • Assist with grant writing including grant research, writing, editing, reporting, and engaging foundation donors.
  • Assist in monthly donor relations and new donor strategies, including regular calling, emailing, and mailers of all new and monthly donors.
  • Assist donor CRM management; partner with the accounting team to ensure accuracy, flow, run queries, etc.
  • Assist with writing, editing, research reporting, data management, and measurement of development tools.
  • Assist the Volunteer Coordinator with volunteer engagement, shifts, events, etc.
  • Proficient with online platforms/systems: Microsoft Outlook, Word Suite, Bloomerang, Slack, Zoom and others.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings; monthly 1:1 meetings; quarterly strategy sessions; and annual staff retreats.
  • To perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Development and needs of the office at large.

  • Must like a fast-paced environment with a variety of duties.
  • Must be self-motivated, highly organized, and enjoy working with people.
  • Must have strong computer skills, a seasoned ability to write and edit, and want to be part of a team.


  • Previous employment in the non-profit sector preferred
  • Previous experience in donor relations and grant writing or related fields preferred
  • Must have at minimum of 5 years of experience with administration
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Skilled writing capabilities and organizational skills
  • Excellent technical abilities (social media, Microsoft Office, etc.)
  • Excellent proven people skills
  • Must be comfortable working with a diverse group of stakeholders (donors, staff/volunteers/program participants/visitors)
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fundraising and event experience preferred.
