This position is responsible for managing the daily operations of the retail store and engaging with customers to create exceptional brand experiences. This role works with the Senior Manager, Customer Experience to proactively improve retail store processes and documentation, manage inventory flow and presentation, and assist with the testing of new retail concepts.

Position Requirements

  • Interact with customers to provide exceptional service that enhances their experience and relationship with the Ruffwear brand.
  • Open the Retail Store for business and/or close the store at the end of the day without supervision.
  • Educate customers on products, usage, fitting, and care, and guide customers toward product recommendations based on their needs.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on retail store operations, internal systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain store inventory, merchandising, and cleanliness standards. Partner with stakeholders to make inventory adjustments and recommend merchandising strategies or improvements.
  • Manage the point-of-sale system and process customer transactions accurately.
  • Ensure monthly sales quotas are met and monitor operating expenditures to meet financial objectives.
  • Identify current and future customer needs by establishing rapport with customers to understand service requirements.
  • Manage store scheduling to coordinate additional staffing support as needed.
  • Work with the Marketing team to drive targeted marketing campaigns, promotions, or events.
  • Manage used inventory presentation for e-commerce platforms, including updating product photos, labeling, and sizing documentation.
  • Manage used inventory order fulfillment and other outbound shipping processes.
  • Open the Retail Store for business and/or close the store at the end of the day without supervision.
  • Confidently interact with dogs (and their humans) in a retail environment.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a retail store and warehouse setting. This position frequently requires standing for long periods of time and bending and/or kneeling on concrete floors, and the ability to lift heavy objects, such as boxes of product (up to 40 lbs).

Required Education and Experience

  • 5+ years of retail or customer service experience.
  • 18 years or older.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations in a calm, effective, and professional manner.
  • Self-motivated, possessing excellent time management, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Enthusiasm for staying current on customer service best practices and trends.
  • Experience resolving customer escalations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, self-directed, diverse, and collaborative environment.
  • Experience in cash handling and working with Point-Of-Sale (POS) systems.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Meet) and e-commerce platforms.
  • Passion for dogs and first-hand understanding of the interactive bond between canines and humans.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Retail assortment planning and merchandising experience.
  • Experience with inventory and/or shipping management systems (NetSuite preferred).
  • Experience in the outdoor and/or consumer products industry.
  • Passion for the outdoors.

Base Salary:

$50,000 – $60,000 annually

This range represents the low and high end of the anticipated base salary range for this position. The actual base salary will depend on several factors such as experience, knowledge, and skills.
