WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

ODF is looking for a Forest Manager 2 to provide leadership and oversight of multi-district and statewide projects, to assure operational capacity, and to provide consistent delivery of program activities as directed by the Area Director. These goals and related duties are in the areas of:

  • Provide management of programmatic units within the area including Administration, Rangeland Protection, and broader oversight under the direction of the Area Director to all divisions administered within the Area’s geographical area including the Fire Protection, Forest Resources, State Forests, and statewide business programs such as motor pool and communications.
  • Supervise, direct, and monitor the work of professional, administrative, and technical staff assigned to the various programs.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement strategies and recommendations at the statewide and area level to accomplish Unit/District/State goals/objectives in line with the Department’s Mission/Vision, Strategic Plan, and Annual Operating Plans.
  • Support, train, and prepare employees to move into higher levels of leadership in the organization.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Six (6) years of natural resource experience in areas such as wildland fire suppression, forest management, etc., which include assisting with

a) development of program rules and policies,

b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans,

c) program evaluation, and

d) budget preparation;
– OR-
Bachelor’s degree in forestry or closely related natural resources field and three (3) years of natural resource experience in areas such as wildland fire suppression, or forest management which includes which include assisting with

a) development of program rules and policies,

b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans,

c) program evaluation, and

d) budget preparation.

Note:  Driver’s License Check – This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business. If your license is from outside Oregon, you must submit at least a three-year court/DMV printout.  If you have an Oregon driver’s license, a record check will be conducted on the top candidate to ensure a valid license and acceptable driving record.

  • Proven ability to develop strong working relationships with diverse stakeholders and to maintain those relationships when resolving complex natural resource issues.
  • Highly effective communicator both verbally and in writing, who demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills when interacting with people.
  • Objective problem solver with the ability to function in this capacity in group settings.
  • Effective supervisor who can provide direction in a work environment influenced by both science and politics, manage remote employees, and perform under stressful conditions involving conflict.
  • Background in technical forestry and wildland fire, especially as it relates to the Pacific Northwest.
