Position Summary

The Mountain Sports Business Manager is responsible for the administrative, financial, and business operations of Mountain Sports programs, with a primary focus on payroll, employee lifecycle management, product setup and sales performance, and business analysis. This role ensures accurate and timely completion of payroll and personnel processes, supports revenue generation through effective product management, and provides strategic insights to drive operational and financial performance.

This position exercises independent judgment and discretion in managing sensitive employee and financial data while supporting leadership with business planning and decision-making.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Business Operational & Analysis

  • Lead reporting and analysis of Mountain Sports business performance.
  • Track key metrics including revenue, labor, utilization, and product mix.
  • Provide regular insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
  • Identify trends, opportunities, and risks across programs and seasons.

Payroll and Financial Administration

  • Oversee payroll processes including timekeeping audits, approvals, and adjustments.
  • Ensure payroll accuracy and compliance with company policies and wage laws.
  • Track labor spend in alignment with budget targets and operational needs.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes for the department.

Employee Administration  

  • Manage onboarding, offboarding, and employment status changes.
  • Process pay rate changes, promotions, and role transitions.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and documentation.
  • Partner with HR to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.

Product Setup and Sales Support  

  • Manage setup, maintenance, and accuracy of products in RTP and relevant systems.
  • Coordinate with sales channels to ensure product availability and alignment.
  • Monitor product performance and recommend pricing or structural adjustments.
  • Support sales initiatives and promotions to drive revenue.

Communication & Coordination  

  • Develop and distribute employee communications related to schedules, pay, and operational updates.
  • Act as a key liaison between Mountain Sports leadership, Payroll, HR, and Finance.
  • Provide clear, consistent, and timely information to staff and leadership.

Staff Support

  • Provide administrative and operational support to managers, supervisors, and frontline staff.
  • Assist with scheduling systems, staffing allocations, and operational planning tools.
  • Serve as a resource for employee questions related to pay, products, and systems.

Secondary Function

  • Assist with department-wide projects and seasonal planning initiatives.
  • Support audits, reporting requests, and compliance reviews.
  • Provide backup support for front-line systems or operations as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Job Scope

The primary focus of this role is to support the business operations of Mountain Sports by ensuring financial accuracy, operational efficiency, and informed decision-making. This role works both proactively on long-term planning and reactively to daily operational needs.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Number of employees supervised: 25
  • Positions Supervised: Supervisors (2), Support Staff (15), & Sales Staff (5-8)
  • Scheduling and assigning work: Oversee administrative workflows or support staff scheduling and sales staff scheduling.
  • Training:  Assist with onboarding and systems training.
  • Salary Actions: Recommend changes based on role or performance.
  • Disciplinary actions: Coordinate with leadership and HR as needed.
  • Performance review: Support evaluation process for support staff, sales staff, and direct reporting Supervisors
  • Hiring/Termination: Assist with administrative processes.

Interpersonal Contacts

Communicates daily with Mountain Sports managers, supervisors, instructors, Payroll, HR, Finance, and IT teams. Regular interaction with Sales, Tickets, and other resort departments to ensure alignment of products and business operations.

Specific Job Skills

  • License/Certification: PSIA/AASI Level 1 or equivalent. Level 2 PSIA/AASI or equivalent preferred.
  • Technical: Child Development background a plus. Computer knowledge (Microsoft Office required; RTP Point of Sale and Workday knowledge a plus). Able to ski or ride at an intermediate level.
  • Physical Capabilities: Able to work outside in all weather conditions. Must be physically capable of being on skis or a snowboard and wear ski or snowboard boots for the entire day. Able to lift up to 50 lbs, i.e., small children and adults assist.
  • Additional: Must be extremely patient with a high level of organizational skill. Able to work overtime during our busiest holidays and weekends. Due to the sensitive nature of this position, a criminal background check will be conducted after the position is accepted, and the results will determine the conditional job offer. This background check will be done in accordance with standards enacted under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Education/Related Experience

  • Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Current Ski, Snowboard, or Mountain Bike certification.
  • Minimum time in related position: At least 2 years of sport instruction, at least 1 year of supervisory experience.

Current Hiring Range: $58,000 annualized
