Job Details:
Job Title – Medical Services and Education Assistant (11-Month)

Hours/Days – Normal Business Hours, Monday – Friday

Based out of the Oregon Youth Challenge Program 10 minutes east of Bend, OR

Role of Department:
The Oregon Youth Challenge Program (OYCP) is a residential, military-model learning environment that serves at-risk high schoolers who are in grades 10-12. This nationally-recognized program provides academic instruction, life readiness and coping skills to students.
The school is a non-traditional model that operates similar to a military academy. The program is guided by military principles, structure and self-discipline. Cadets are eligible to earn a high school diploma, GED or credit recovery from required class work completion. The school is accredited by the Northwest Accreditation Commission (NWAC) and approved by the Oregon Department of Education (ODE).

Job Purpose:
The purpose of this role is to assist and collaborate closely with COIC Teachers to support classroom activities. Assists in enrolling new students, receiving new referrals and making contact with families. Make copies, correct student work, track attendance for classroom, and assist in student instruction as directed. This position also serves as an assistant for medical services including cleaning, stocking, and maintaining accurate records. Works under direct supervision of COIC site Lead Teacher, with additional oversight provided by OYCP Commander for the medical services duties. This job is considered an 11-month job with pre-determined unpaid time which aligns with the 11-month teacher schedule (typically this time off falls in December and June).

FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is under the direct supervision of COIC site Lead Teacher. For the Medical Services Assistant portion of the work, additional direction and oversight is provided by the OYCP Commandant and professional medical staff.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM ASSISTANT DUTIES:

  • Assist teachers with clerical duties, including copies and grade/score data entry;
  • Assist in enrolling new students, tracking attendance;
  • Provide tutoring assistance to Cadets;
  • Assist with the coordination of administering of a variety of formal testing for students;
  • Communicate with districts and schools for records such as transcripts;
  • Related duties as assigned.

MEDICAL SERVICES ASSISTANT DUTIES:

  • Coordinate prescription refill process, including communication with parents, pharmacy, and relevant staff members;
  • Maintain medical room inventory, ordering, and re-stocking of supplies, including stocking of platoon medical needs;
  • Ensure cleanliness of medical room and equipment;
  • Maintain accurate medical log for all receiving and dispensing of medication;
  • Complete all required documentation (i.e. triage form) as directed by medical professional or designee; accurately record medical information for Cadet charts;
  • Assist the medical team in coordinating medical requests from Cadets;
  • Arrange appointments for Cadets;
  • Organize, prepare, and track the physical location of medication and other health-related supplies and equipment for transport;
  • Provide relevant staff with health profile documents; provide Cadets with profile bands;
  • Related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Required Skills:

  • Adhere to all Oregon Administrative Rules which provide requirements of teaching programs, specifically OAR 581-022-2410, 2415, and 2420;
  • Assure compliance with applicable district, state local and federal laws, rules and regulations;
  • Must complete an Oregon Department of Education fingerprinting and criminal record/background check and agree to release that information to the Department of Education;
  • Must successfully pass a non-DOT (minor safety-sensitive) pre-employment drug test;
  • Must maintain client and agency confidentiality and exercise discretion in confidential matters;
  • Ability to manage time effectively and efficiently;
  • Demonstrated skill in record-keeping procedures and practices;
  • Communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally;
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and work as a team;
  • Exhibit courtesy and professionalism to represent COIC and OYCP in a manner that will maintain and promote the positive reputation of the organizations;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite Programs and Google suite programs, including Google docs;
  • Valid driver’s license and access to private vehicle or equivalent means of transportation;
  • Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment;

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED

Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent

Education, Experience Preferred:

  • Experience in a military setting
  • Experience working in a secondary school setting
  • 2 years of education or Associate’s degree in education, social work, law enforcement, or military science; or equivalent
