Primary Purpose

The ITS Functional Analyst serves as one of the College’s employee information, process and functional/technical analysts. The ITS Functional Analyst performs a range of duties, including data analysis, system configuration, reporting, troubleshooting, and training for multiple College’s software applications. Equally as important, this position works directly with stakeholders from all COCC departments to coordinate the holistic approach to new technology solutions in college operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Functional Analysis Activities:
  • Serve as the functional/technical analyst for College software applications assigned, including data analysis, system configurations, reporting, troubleshooting, workflows and user access
  • Analyze and identify process improvements to College software applications assigned including:
      • Implement functionality not currently utilized, testing to ensure functional, performance and quality requirements are met
      • Standardize data management and workflows
      • Schedule and prioritize updates/upgrades with end users and ITS

     

  • Review application/system upgrades, release documentation, engage in technical forums and use other resources to gain awareness and knowledge of technical issues, changes and updates
  • Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and security of all supported software applications
  • Develop documentation, training material and conduct staff training for assigned applications
Project Management Activities
  • Plan, implement, monitor and provide on-going support of software applications.
  • Work with key stakeholders to meet project objectives and timelines.
  • Serve as liaison between vendors and appropriate College employees.
  • Act as end-user subject matter expertise and provide training as appropriate.
Marginal Job Functions

  • Participate in appropriate professional development opportunities and organizations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate they can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies.

The position requires solid technical aptitude, an understanding of the business supported by the software solution(s), report-writing methodologies, and process improvement principles. Experience from a user perspective, having good customer service and communication skills, and the ability to triage and follow-up on open issues is highly preferred. Patience with a diversity of user skill levels and determination to resolve issues in a timely manner are essential qualities.

  • Ability to quickly gain solid technical and functional knowledge of a broad set of software applications to support end users.
  • Knowledge of and experience with project management principles, concepts and best practice strategies for technology implementations.
  • Ability to effectively problem-solve issues that affect multiple departments, bringing stakeholders to a reasonable consensus.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, technical issues with both end users and technical staff.
  • Ability to identify process workflow problems, analyze results and create resolutions using appropriate resources.
  • Ability to design and deliver technical training, documentation, and presentations.
  • Ability to be a self-starter, work collaboratively, be highly motivated and possess good judgment in identifying issues, stakeholders and priorities.
  • Ability to create requirements documentation and functional specifications.
  • Ability to research, analyze, and interpret technical documentation and resources.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experience.

Ergonomic Requirements

Working hours are regular generally Monday through Friday. Additional hours or schedule changes may be required based on work requirements. Work is performed in an office setting, mostly sitting with frequent computer use. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Requirements

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, education, computer science, or related field.
Experience:
  • Three years of similar/relevant work experience in any combination of the following:
    • Project management or coordination
    • Functional or business analysis
    • Data analysis, reporting, and workflow development
    • Supporting users on business-related systems
