The City of Bend is accepting applications for one (1) regular, full-time Municipal Court Supervisor in the Municipal Court Division of the Finance Department. This is a salaried, exempt (overtime ineligible) non-represented position. The City may use this job posting to create an eligibility list for future hiring purposes. The Municipal Court Supervisor plays a vital role in keeping the court running smoothly and serving the public with fairness, clarity, and professionalism. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who enjoys problem solving, mentoring staff, and balancing the human side of justice with the practical needs of daily operations. From helping customers at the front counter to coordinating schedules, responding to questions from the public, and supporting judges and court administration, no two days are quite the same. You’ll be at the center of the action, ensuring cases move forward efficiently while maintaining a respectful and welcoming environment for everyone who comes through the courtroom doors.

This role is about guiding a talented team that helps people navigate a sometimes stressful court process. You’ll work alongside the court manager to coach and support staff, step in when challenges arise, and look for ways to improve how the court serves the community. Upcoming projects and opportunities may include modernizing processes, improving customer service practices, supporting technology upgrades, and helping the court adapt to changing laws or community needs. This position offers the chance to make meaningful improvements that people will notice both inside the organization and at the public counter.

What You’ll Do

The following duties are a sample of major duties performed in this role and not intended to be an exhaustive list.

  1. Lead and support the court team by setting daily priorities, answering questions, coaching staff, and ensuring coverage so court services run smoothly.
  2. Keep court operations on track by overseeing citation flow, records, calendars, and deadlines to make sure information is accurate, complete, and legally sound.
  3. Actively step into the work when needed to help at the counter, processing documents, problem solving complex cases, and supporting courtroom activity.
  4. Serve as a liaison between court staff, the judge, law enforcement, collection partners, and City leadership to resolve issues and keep communication clear and consistent.
  5. Ensure proper handling of fines, fees, and payments, including coordination with collections and accountability for funds ordered by the court.
  6. Identify and improve processes by finding ways to streamline workflows, improve customer service, and adapt to changes in law or technology.
  7. Support fiscal responsibility by helping monitor expenses, track operational needs, and contribute to budget planning.
  8. Provide calm, professional service to the public, including de-escalating tense situations and helping people understand court processes.
  9. Stay ahead of legal and operational changes by tracking new laws, updating procedures, and helping the court adapt effectively.

 

Ideal Candidate

Candidates who meet the listed minimum qualifications, including an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered for an interview. Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D.; AND
  • Experience: At least one year of Municipal Court experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Required Licenses & Certifications:

  • LEDS (Law Enforcement Data System) certification within six months of hire.
  • Current and valid Driver’s license per City policies outlined in the Employee Handbook.

Desired (but not required) Attributes:

  • Associate’s degree in criminal justice or a related field.
  • 4 years’ experience as a Municipal Court Supervisor.
