JOB DESCRIPTION: Receptionist
JOB SUMMARY:
Acts as the first point of contact for patients and family members entering Bend Surgery Center. Responsible for verifying patient information and completing accurate patient registration. Acts as a liaison between patient or patient family and professional staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience: Previous experience in medical business office preferred
Physical:
- Must be able to Sit, stand, walk, and perform keyboard operation continually
- Occasionally bend, climb, reach overhead, carry/push or pull 1-10 pounds, grasping/squeezing
- Rarely stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, carry, push or pull 11-15 pounds
- Must be able to speak and hear normal auditory levels
Mental:
- Must have excellent communication skills and ability to interact with a diverse population professionally
- Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels within Bend Surgery Center and external customers, Patients and potential employees
Job Skills:
- Must be computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft office products
- Must have knowledge of and ability to perform basic office tasks
- Must have exemplary customer service skills
JOB RELATIONSHIPS: Is responsible to the Business Office Manager. Does not supervise other employees.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Welcomes patients and visitors by greeting them in person or on the telephone
- Collects patient identification cards
- Collects patient insurance information
- Ensures that documentation is completed and all necessary documents are signed by the patient
- Verifies patient information and updates patient accounts or paperwork when necessary
- Collects copayments and deductibles as needed
- Records payments in the billing system or log as required
- Issues receipts for payments received
- Notifies clinical staff when patient is ready to proceed to the clinical area by appropriate documentation in practice management system
- Keep reception area neat and reading material current and in good order
- Accepts deliveries to the ASC, as needed
- Maintain inventory of forms needed in reception area
- Protects patients’ rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information
- Prepares patients charts for the following day
- Confirm the patient information on the Registration Form is accurate, making any necessary changes.
- Answer the telephone and direct calls to appropriate personnel
- Attends all required education and in-services
- Adheres to safety policies and practices good body mechanics and ergonomics
- Follows all rules and regulations for PHI and HIPAA protections of patient information
- Follows all policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, attendance, timeliness, and safeguarding confidential information
- Performs other duties as assigned

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Days and hours of work vary to meet patient or center needs
- The Center is a well-lit, ventilated and climate controlled environment
- Ability to work with office equipment, some of which will have moving parts
- Noise level is usually quiet to moderate
- Work in close proximity to co-workers and patients
