The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is a full service agency that oversees the Adult Jail, provides Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Civil Process and Search and Rescue operations. Special units include SWAT, Marine Patrol, ATV Patrol, Forest Patrol, along with five K9 teams. Founded in 1916 and today led by your appointed Sheriff Ty Rupert, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office serves over 200,000 residents in Deschutes County.

ABOUT THE JOB:
The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for a full-time Accounting Technician to join its Finance Team. Under basic supervision, this position will support the team by performing general accounting duties, purchase orders and payments, managing financial documents, and handling routine invoice processing and tracking across all divisions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Routine accounting functions to process invoices, purchase orders and payments.
- Reviews and monitors invoices from assigned Divisions; verifies budget revenues and expenditures, prepares documents, confirms accounts, and assesses reports.
- Delivers exceptional customer service; greets, engages, and directs customers, answers phones, and disseminates information and resources when requested.
- What You Will Bring:
- Knowledge of or experience with:
- County policies and procedures.
- Applicable state and federal rules, codes, and regulations, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for Public Sector financial procedures.
- Customer service and public relations methods and practices.
- Skill in:
- Performing a variety of accounting functions to support Sheriff’s Office operations.
- Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, other County employees, and representatives from other regional and federal agencies.

Compensation
- $4,497.51 to $6,027.10 per month for a 173.33-hour work month. Excellent County benefit package when eligible. This union-represented position is available immediately.

Minimum Qualifications
-
- Associate’s degree in Accounting or related field;
- AND two (2) years of accounting experience;
- OR any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge to perform the job.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Government experience preferred.
- Experience with Tyler ERP software.
Necessary Special Requirements

Driving is a requirement for this position. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver’s license within 30 days of hire date. The employment offer will be contingent upon presentation of an acceptable and verifiable driver’s license, pre-employment screening for criminal history, driving history, and controlled substances (NOTE: Positive test results for marijuana use may result in rescission of a contingent offer of employment). This screening must be completed with satisfactory findings in order for a formal offer of employment to be extended.
Must have dependable transportation and be able and willing to drive throughout Deschutes County in sometimes adverse weather conditions.
Must pass a pre-qualifying driving record review and criminal history background.
