Hooker Creek Companies is seeking a Safety & Compliance Specialist to support and strengthen our company-wide safety program. This role works closely with the Safety Director to help maintain compliance with federal and state regulations while promoting a strong, practical safety culture across all divisions.
This is a hands-on, field-oriented position that blends safety inspections, training, incident response, and regulatory support. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable working independently, and confident interacting with employees at all levels of the organization.
What You’ll Do
- Support and reinforce a positive safety culture across all company operations
- Assist in maintaining compliance with OSHA, MSHA, and DOT/FMCSA regulations
- Conduct safety inspections at job sites, plants, and facilities
- Coordinate and document safety meetings and trainings
- Assist with development and delivery of employee safety training, including new hire orientation
- Participate in incident response, including investigations and documentation
- Help maintain OSHA logs, safety records, and regulatory reporting requirements
- Assist with job safety analyses and implementation of safe work practices
- Support regulatory inspections and documentation as directed
- Review driver safety videos and provide coaching feedback
- Collaborate with the Safety Director, HR, and field leadership on safety initiatives
- Respond to after-hours safety incidents as needed
What We’re Looking For
- 2+ years of experience in occupational health and safety (construction, mining, or similar industry preferred)
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations; MSHA and DOT experience a plus
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently while following established procedures
- Solid organizational skills and attention to detail
- Comfortable working in both office and field environments
Skills and Experience Required:
- Excellent communication, adherence to deadlines, and the ability to prioritize in an ever-changing environment
- Critical thinking and problem solving skills for complex and nuanced situations
- Well-developed interpersonal skills including the ability to assess others’ interests and tactfully deliver difficult messages
- Advanced skills with the Microsoft Office Suite
- An Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Construction Safety, and/or related job experience is preferred.
- Minimum of two years of experience in occupational health and safety, preferably in construction or mining industries; experience with DOT driver regulations is a plus.
- Job-related safety credentials such as OSHA 10/30/500 training, MSHA certification, or equivalent experience are strongly preferred.
- Valid Oregon driver’s license required; must be insurable under company carrier.
- Current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with manual endorsement is beneficial.
