About the Role

The City of Bend is currently accepting applications for one (1) Limited Duration, full-time Warehouse Technician in the Public Works Warehouse. This is an hourly, non-exempt (overtime eligible) position represented by the City of Bend Employee Association (COBEA). Reporting to the Warehouse Supervisor, this position is responsible for the purchasing, receiving, storing, and distributing of materials, tools, equipment, and supplies to support the Water Services, Transportation and Mobility, Facilities, Fleet and Engineering departments as a unified public works entity. This position ensures inventory accuracy, maintains a clean and organized warehouse, and plays a vital role in ensuring all materials are available for staff during day-to-day and emergency operations.

What You’ll Do

The following duties are a sample of major duties performed in this role and not intended to be an exhaustive list.

• Inventory Management: Receive, inspect, and record incoming shipments. Ensure accurate inventory levels through regular counts and audits.
• Material Handling: Safely load, unload, and move materials within the warehouse using appropriate equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks, dollies, et cetera).
• Order Fulfillment: Research and purchase materials, prepare and distribute materials, tools, and equipment to public works crews as needed. Ensure timely and accurate order processing.
• Warehouse Maintenance: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse environment. Conduct regular inspections and address any safety hazards.
• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of inventory transactions, including receipts, issues, and returns. Use warehouse management software to update inventory data.
• Customer Service: Provide excellent service to internal customers (public works crews) by responding to requests and inquiries promptly and professionally.
• Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies. Participate in safety training and meetings.
• In an emergency event or an officially declared State of Emergency, responds as directed to ensure the restoration of essential public services, facilities, and infrastructure.
• Performs related duties as necessary to achieve the objectives of the position.

Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for someone who has previous experience in shipping and receiving, including knowledge of applicable inventory system(s) and ability to
use database and spreadsheet applications to produce required reports and findings. The ideal candidate will have the ability to demonstrate experience in accurate inventory management, and bring skills in organization, communication, project and time management, and attention to detail.

Minimum Qualifications:
• High School/GED or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities as outlined in this job description.
• Previous experience in warehouse operations, inventory management, or a related field.
• Basic computer skills, including familiarity with warehouse management software.
• Current and valid Driver’s license per City policies outlined in the Employee Handbook.
• OSHA-compliant Forklift certification within 30 days of hire.

Desired Qualifications:
• Certifications: OSHA-compliant Forklift certification
• Experience: 1-2 years’ experience in a similar position and/or performing similar tasks.
