Position Overview

The Ranch Hand reports directly to the Facilities Manager. This position performs work related to the day- to-day operations and maintenance of PMRCAA, as well as livestock care. The Ranch Hand is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean environment for the entire property, including buildings, homes, barns, greenhouse and other Ranch and Foundation structures.  In addition, this position works closely with the agricultural program performing duties aligned with regenerative agricultural and forest practices. 

Duties

Work with cattle and other livestock, monitoring overall health and care of ranch animals
Regular maintenance, repair, and cleaning of PMRCAA facilities and equipment
Assist with operation and maintenance of all irrigation equipment: including pumps, pivots, wheel lines, hand lines, big guns and individual irrigation lines and systems throughout the property.
Groundskeeping & landscaping including mowing, trimming, planting, pruning, weeding, and raking. 
Load and unload bulk materials using heavy equipment and trailers.
Fence repair and routine maintenance
Operate and maintain tools and equipment in an acceptable manner as directed by Facilities Manager
Pasture work, such as planting and dragging.
Tree felling, firewood splitting. 

Assist with maintenance of Ranch vehicles, equipment, and tools. 
Pickup and disposal of all debris, litter and clutter left on grounds and in and around buildings.
Instructing or aiding visiting guests in competency with tools; welder, plasma cutter, chop saw as directed.
Additional duties as assigned – this is a multi-faceted environment and priorities, and work focus are dynamic and varied.
 

Minimum Qualifications

Aged 18 years +
A valid driver’s license. 
A team player who has the ability to follow directions, is organized and can prioritize tasks.
Dependable and punctual, available to work when needed, including some weekends and evenings.
Committed to responsible land stewardship and has a basic understanding of land management and groundskeeping work.
A self-motivated person who is able to work independently and as a successful member of a team. 
Interested and willing to learn about the integration of arts and farming/agricultural practices.
Ability to interact respectfully with people of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and cultures. 
A personal style characterized by humility, flexibility, self-awareness, accessibility, curiosity, humor, a sense of urgency, and the ability to work with grace under pressure.  Personal qualities of honesty, transparency, integrity, and credibility.

Desired Qualifications

AA degree or 2-3 experience working in agriculture or outdoor facilities, including gardening, ranching, and/or farming.
Experience in livestock care and management.
Familiarity with one or more of the following skillsets: construction, metalworking/welding, plumbing, carpentry trades, and/or livestock management/production agriculture.
Experience working with tractors, ATVs and machinery such as chainsaws, log splitters and lawnmowers.
Basic welding skills
General understanding of agricultural and residential irrigation systems
Ability to operate chop saw, nail guns, etc.
First Aid/CPR certified

Compensation

Hourly rate of $22 – $30 commensurate with experience.  

Working Conditions

Consistent outdoor exposure including varying temperatures and conditions.
Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
Physical activity of all kinds daily

 

Background check & Drug Testing

We are a community-centered organization, and all of our staff conduct significant outreach to schools, social service centers, and other partner organizations. In addition, our facility (which houses both Roundhouse Foundation main offices and Pine Meadow Ranch Center for Arts & Agriculture) is a drug-free workplace. PMRCAA is a working ranch with safety-sensitive positions that would be dangerous if performed under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Roundhouse Foundation requires all new staff members to satisfactorily pass a background check, driving record check and pre-employment drug screen for the safety of employees, community partners and visitors.  Therefore, employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen, background and driving record check.  All employees may be subject to reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing.
