FULL JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: https://envirocenter.org/about-us/jobs/ Summary of Position: The Reuse Bend Coordinator (RBC) supports the Rethink Waste Project, a core program of The Environmental Center (TEC). RWP envisions a community that understands the upstream and downstream impacts of using Earth’s resources and makes responsible decisions about the consumption, use, and disposal of materials. Our goal is to help lead Deschutes County (and Central Oregon) in developing a sustainable relationship with materials, by preventing waste where possible, and recovering as much as possible of what’s left. The Rethink Waste Project received a two-year grant from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality’s Materials Management Program to implement Reuse Bend – an initiative to switch Bend and Central Oregon’s food service sector from single-use serviceware to reusables. The RBC will support this project by conducting outreach to restaurants, food carts, and food service businesses (“eateries”), enlisting suitable eateries in the reusable container program, supporting marketing and communications activities, and handling administrative tasks. Type of Position: This is a Part Time-Type 2, non-exempt position, approximately 16 hours per week. Some evening and weekend work may be required for outreach to specific businesses. Current funding for this position is available through March 2027. Additional funding to expand the scope and impact of the project as early as July 2025 is under consideration. Contingent upon funding, there may be an opportunity to increase hours for this position in the future. Ideally, the candidate would be open to additional hours. Essential Outcomes for the Reuse Bend Coordinator
- Conduct effective outreach to food service businesses (“eateries”), with the aim of enlisting all suitable eateries in the reusable container program.
- Support and/or manage marketing and communications activities for Reuse Bend.
- Handle other administrative tasks, including coordinating reusable serviceware supplies, maintaining proper recordkeeping, and supporting grant reporting.
Scope and Duties Business Outreach and Sales (~35%)
- Compile a list of eateries in the region, working with existing partners like Deschutes County Environmental Health and local Chambers of Commerce.
- Co-create a strategy and pitch for outreach to eateries, prioritizing equity and impact.
- Develop strong relationships with participating eateries, by ensuring clear and personable communication, consistent follow-through, and timely fulfillment.
Marketing and Communications Support (~25%)
- Support RWPM and work with external contractors as needed, to create a brand, website (or webpages), and marketing plan for Reuse Bend.
- Write and create a variety of communications for Reuse Bend, including: blog posts, newsletters, press releases, social media, graphics, posters, handouts and signage, in coordination with RWPM and Communications Manager.
- Coordinate ad placements as needed. Participate in the Stakeholder Advisory Group to select containers and partner food cart lot.
- Assist RWPM with creating two engaging shareable guides at project conclusion:
- Creating a Reusable Container Program
- Switching a Food Cart Lot to Reusables
- Update and distribute posters promoting Reuse Bend throughout our community.
- Table or attend relevant food service and other community or networking events.
3. Coordination and Administration (~25%)
- Deliver and replenish reusable serviceware to eateries in a timely & responsive manner.
- Support partnered food cart lot with implementation and management of reusables for on-site dining.
- Maintain proper recordkeeping to ensure organizational and grant reporting processes are followed through with high attention to detail.
- Assist with preparing and submitting grant reports and disbursement requests.
Compensation & Benefits The base wage for this position is $20.97 per hour. New employees may be eligible for a wage increase up to a maximum $24.97 per hour if they have one or more of the qualifications listed below: Spanish language fluency Prior experience (must be directly relevant to the position) In addition, TEC offers:

- Health care stipend of $150 per month.
