JOB DEFINITION:

Under minimal supervision, the Campus Safety and Security Monitor protects the rights and property of the school, District personnel, students and enforces District policies, and school regulations as they relate to safety and security of people and property. The Campus Safety and Security Monitor assists in maintaining order in the school by working with students on behavioral problems. The employee may work with security equipment to assist with investigations at the school. The employee must be able to communicate well with students, staff, and parents. The Campus Safety and Security Monitor works under the supervision of a school administrator.

NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORK:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Â
- Provides for safety and security of students, staff and parents by patrolling building and grounds both during school hours as well as before and after school.
- Reports illegal activities, questionable or unsafe conditions or problems with security to the principal or designee.
- Monitors security cameras, social media, and student interactions and communications and relays pertinent information to appropriate building leaders and school resource officer for use in student discipline or criminal matters.
- Recommends improvements in security and safety of facilities to the principal or designee.
- Assists school administrators, counselors and dean of students with issues pertaining to student disciplinary issues.
- Monitors all non-school personnel and directs them to the office or off the school premises.
- Monitors school buildings, parking lots and surrounding areas to ensure student and public safety and security.
- Evaluates the seriousness of a given situation and calls for assistance if necessary.
- Assists in resolving conflicts and similar problem situations between students.
- Assists with implementing school-wide student management plan and incentive programs.
- Directs all general traffic and bus traffic as needed to maintain order in vehicle and pedestrian crossings.
- Maintains radio communication with school personnel.
- Detains students for alleged misconduct and delivers students to appropriate authorities which may include counselors, administrators and/or police officials.
- Enforces all policies relating to student discipline and attendance.
- Assists with the plans to provide for a successful opening and closing of the school year.
- Develops and maintains positive internal lines of communication with students and staff.
- Develops and maintains positive external lines of communications with parents, patrons, community agencies, and other public agencies.
- Supervises students during recess, lunch periods, and before/after school by keeping a calm and disciplined atmosphere on the outside grounds, in the cafeteria, library, hallways, and bus lines.
- Assists others in matters of filing, sorting, data collecting and organizing materials.
- Fulfills other related duties as assigned.
- Fulfills performance standards identified in the evaluation process as required by the position.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Â
Supervision responsibilities require the employee to be able to stand for over 120 consecutive minutes and move to intervene in situations where a student’s safety is being jeopardized. Supervision may also occur during times of inclement weather. The employee needs to be able to lift materials, boxes or equipment weighing up to 30 and / or maneuver up to 50 pounds. The employee must be tolerant yet assertive in order to communicate effectively in confrontational and emotional situations involving staff, students, non-students and their parents/guardians. Confidentiality is a top priority for the person in this position.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Â
High school diploma and up to one year of advanced training/experience in specific job requirements. Prior work experience in a school or public setting, or in a position that involves working with the general public in situations that could be confrontational or contentious is preferred.
Â
The position requires working knowledge of several technical procedures or work activity areas. In depth knowledge of work related school district practices is necessary. Job proficiency can be acquired in six months to one year.
