Shelter Advocate

Location: Bend           

Compensation: $26.47/hour (plus $0.50/hour for bilingual Spanish)             

Hours: Regular full-time (40 hours/week), weekend work required, 11:30am – 8pm

Overview of Key Duties and Responsibilities:

The Shelter Advocate, under the supervision of the Unhoused Services Manager, is responsible for providing case management services for shelter guests. This role will work with program guests in a compassionate and professional manner as it relates to the program objectives. Responsibilities include supportive interaction with program guests, shelter management, volunteers, partner agencies and team members. The Advocate also completes vulnerability assessments for potential guests and unhoused community members.

 

The weekly schedule for this position will include weekends. This is an onsite, in-person position.

 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • ·         Associate’s degree in human services or related field required, bachelor’s degree preferred
  • ·         One year of direct experience in case management required
  • ·         Patience, punctuality, commitment, and responsibility required
  • ·         Passion for helping others and a desire to work in an organization that serves people who are experiencing poverty and houselessness required
  • ·         Weekend work required
  • ·         Two years of experience (i.e. employment, internships, and long-term volunteer position) in the field preferred
  • ·         English/Spanish bilingual preferred
  • ·         General knowledge of substance abuse and mental illness, and Trauma Informed Care preferred
  • ·         Knowledge of HIPAA and adherence to client confidentiality
  • ·         Required within 90 days of hire:
  •  Acquire First Aid/CPR/AED certification
  •  Complete the Bloodborne Pathogens and Naloxone Training
  •   Required prior to date of hire and throughout employment:
  •   Proof of current auto insurance
  •   Access to reliable transportation
  •   Satisfactory criminal background check
