Position Summary

The Lodge Services Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing all daily activities related to the custodial functions of a facility, including basic custodial operations, purchase of supplies and equipment, trash removal, training, and management of staff including supervisors & leads. This person is also required to negotiate and manage various custodial projects necessary within the daily and seasonal operations (winter and summer). This position is responsible for various administrative and management functions. The manager is also responsible for tracking and improving the on-mountain recycling and food waste coordination.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities

  • Represent Mt. Bachelor positively: Support the company mission, and comply with the supervisor manual. Model exemplary self-discipline, departmental teamwork, interdepartmental teamwork, guest service, professional skills, and ethics.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Responsible for the oversight of the cleaning of all lodges and public spaces on the mountain. To lead by example and assist with all on-mountain cleaning.
  • Develop daily cleaning schedules and assign leads to projects.
  • Responsible for hiring, training (& re-training), scheduling, counseling, and terminating all Lodge Services staff.
  • Train and coach employees and co-workers to perform their duties safely. This includes SDS training for the safe use of chemicals & equipment, following Mt. Bachelor’s safety training checklist, and working in an ever-changing environment. Develop and review daily Safety Huddles with staff.
  • Order and maintain supplies and equipment for the Lodge Services department.
  • Utilize the financial tools provided by Mt. Bachelor to keep within budget guidelines.
  • Oversee the management of all garbage & recycling on and off the Mountain; and develop ways to improve the recycling program.

Secondary Function

  • Assist other departments, as needed.
  • Inform Building Maintenance of issues when necessary.

Job Scope

Responsible for the cleanliness of Mt. Bachelor and its properties. Hire, train, supervise, and oversee all Lodge Services Staff. Maintain and inventory supplies & equipment. Manage all garbage & recycling on and off the Mountain. Follow safe work practices and be aware of good risk management practices.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Number of employees supervised: Up to 26 team members
  • Scheduling and assigning work: Monthly, Weekly, & Daily
  • Training: Annual, Seasonal, and Daily Safety topics
  • Salary Actions: Yes, through proper approval channels
  • Disciplinary Actions: Counseling statements and verbal warnings
  • Performance Reviews: Mid-Season and Year-End
  • Hiring/Termination: Yes

Interpersonal Contacts

  • All departments, staff, and guests.

Specific Job Skills

  • License/Certifications: A current and valid driver’s license is required.
  • Technical: Understanding all the equipment and practices used by custodial staff. An understanding of best practices for cleaning and scheduling. Use of all cleaning equipment, including, but not limited to: Kaivac cleaning system machines, carpet extractor, vacuum cleaners, brooms, mops, shovels, and cleaning supplies.
  • Physical Capabilities: The ability to work in various temperatures and have the physical fitness to walk across snow-covered surfaces in low light conditions (night). Must be capable of performing strenuous work in inclement weather conditions. The physical capabilities to perform duties of Lodge Services: vacuuming, sweeping, lifting, shoveling snow, restroom cleaning, and all duties required by the position. Able to remain on feet most of the day.
  • Computer Use: Knowledge of Microsoft Office is required. Excel is preferred. Strong verbal communication.

Education/Related Experience

  • Minimum Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Minimum time in related position: 1+ years in housekeeping/janitorial position, 1 to 2 years in a Supervisor or Manager position.
