The Sisters-Camp Sherman Rural Fire Protection District is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Office Assistant. This position is half-time for approximately 20 hours per week.

The regular shift will be 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Hours could vary to provide office coverage as needed or to fill a vacancy.

The Office Assistant assists on a variety of assignments.

Major duties include:

  • Acts as receptionist for the department. Greeting customers and answering phones.
  • Billing for engine response.
  • Scheduling: ride-along appointments, community hall bookings.
  • Newsletter
  • Support of Fire Corps programs.
  • Uniform inventory and distribution.
  • Secretary for Safety Committee

Other Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced clerical and secretarial duties with independence and sound judgment
  • Complete tasks accurately, professionally, and in a timely manner
  • Compose and type correspondence from drafts or instructions with a high level of accuracy
  • Use Microsoft Office Suite programs effectively
  • Create and distribute emails to internal and external contacts
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail
  • Maintain and organize sensitive documents, including medical records and contact information
  • Assist with organizing events as assigned
  • File and distribute department correspondence and documents
  • Operate standard office equipment (e.g., computer, calculator, photocopier)
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Finance Manager/Executive Assistant
  • Demonstrate strong customer service, courtesy, and a friendly demeanor
  • The administrative office is open from 8 am to 5 pm. Coverage times may require a full day or partial days. Ideally, this person would start as soon as possible.

Pay Scale for Part-time Office Assistant:

$22.64-$27.08 per hour.

This position is eligible for the following benefits:

  • The District offers medical and dental insurance. Premiums for employees who work at least an average of 18 hours per week are shared 50% by the employee and 50% by the District. If an employee declines coverage due to coverage under another qualified health plan, an employer contribution to the employee’s VEBA account shall be made for the 50% value that would have been paid by the employer, up to a maximum of $6,000 per year.
  • The District participates in the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). Contributions to an employees PERS account are made by the employer.
  • Sick leave accruals as required by law. Eligible for Paid Leave Oregon as required by law.

Applicant’s minimum requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old, high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years’ experience in clerical or secretarial work or equivalent preferred.
  • Possess a valid and current Driver’s License and be insurable.
  • Be able to perform mental and physical tasks pursuant to the essential functions of the position.
